Adult Roles in Guiding

Mosman Girl Guides,Adult Volunteers

Guiding in Mosman is a wholly voluntary organisation.  If you’re an adult over 18 years of age, you can help make Guiding happen by becoming a volunteer member.

Volunteering with Girl Guides is a fun and rewarding way to help open a world of possibilities for girls. All you need is a little extra time, and the desire to do something worthwhile and fulfilling.  There are numerous ways to help out in both a formal and an informal capacity.

As a Unit Leader or HelperMosman Girl Guides,Adult Volunteers

If you have enthusiasm for life, a willingness to try new things, and a sense of community, you have all the skills required to be a Unit Leader or Helper. The only other thing you’ll need is the time to commit to supporting the girls in your Guide Unit on a weekly basis.  Your role would include the following:

  • Leading your Unit of girls
  • Helping your Unit decide what activities it wants to do
  • Facilitating those activities
  • Liaising with both parents and the staff in the office of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT
  • Attending age-appropriate events with your Unit.

Training and Support Provided

Every month, Girl Guides NSW & ACT run Guiding Orientation webinars. They run for about an hour and are the place to start, if you’re thinking about becoming a Guide Leader. Leadership Qualification training is then provided at no cost to those making the commitment to become involved.  Throughout your training, an experienced Guide Leader will support you and act as your learning partner.

District or Support Group Roles

If working with girls is just not you right now, or you’re unable to make a regular weekly commitment, you might be more suited to being a Leader of Adults.

Girl Guides couldn’t operate without volunteer managers who help to coordinate our Leaders and ensure the smooth running of Guide Districts.  If your background includes skills in managing people, you might be the ideal candidate for a District management position.

Share your skills and experiencesVolunteer guides, activities for youths

Although you mightn’t be able to commit to a leadership or management role, there are still lots of ways to be involved. Community members often work together in a volunteer capacity with parents and Leaders to build their local Guide District. Did you know you can even join or volunteer for any role without having a daughter in Girl Guides?

Your Guide District’s management team or support group will likely have different roles to suit a variety of talents. Through volunteering, you’ll join other enthusiastic and friendly people helping your Girl Guides in your community through activities such as:

  • Assisting with maintaining the hall or meeting place
  • Promoting Guides in the community
  • Helping raise funds to assist with hall insurance, resources and equipment used by the District.

See our About Us page for further information

For more information on these roles within Mosman Girl Guides and Mosman Junior Guides please contact our District Manager on [email protected].

Hall Maintenance and Community Thanks

Upgrade other door 2 2This page summarises recent major achievements relating to the maintenance of the Mosman Guide Hall.

These works would not have been possible without the generosity and kindness of various businesses within the Mosman and surrounding communities, who gave money, time, equipment, products and services to ensure that our lovely hall for hire and party venue not only looks amazing but is a safe and fun environment for any and all who use it.  We thank these businesses and individuals for their support and look forward to many years of co-contributions from our community to them and theirs.

We hope that all who visit this page will thank these companies by using them for any services that they provide.

Works in recent years:

Fundraising

Mosman Girl Guides-GuidingGuiding Mosman Girl Guides-Youth Group Activities

Our Support Group love to organise fundraising events throughout the year.

We aim to hold one fundraiser per term. Past fundraiser events have included a Guide Biscuit Sale, an annual Cake Sale and a Sausage Sizzle at our local Bunnings Balgowlah.

We would also like to thank Woolworths Neutral Bay and Bakers Delight Neutral Bay for the ongoing support.

All funds raised go straight back into the Unit, providing vital hall maintenance as well as supplies for Guide meetings and Leader Training.

Monday 6:30 – 8:00 pm   Age 10-14

Mosman Girl Guides North Shore SydneyFor over 100 years, Girl Guides has provided a unique space for girls in Mosman to learn new skills, make new friends, and become more community-minded.

Our programme is all about trying new challenges in a safe environment, helping the girls develop confidence in their abilities, giving them an understanding of the amazing possibilities life offers, and most importantly having fun each week.  We operate a Patrol system whereby the older girls will become Patrol Leaders and help the other girls develop their skills through sharing knowledge and experiences.  No matter what inspires your daughter, or what interests her most, Girl Guides will help her develop her potential while also making new friends.  The guiding experience is very relevant in this modern day as it offers young girls the opportunity to express themselves whilst learning important friendship skills in an environment where they are interacting with other girls their own age and feeling safe and comfortable.  As many young people attest to feeling isolated from their peers, Mosman Girl Guides allows this interaction to occur under supervision from both adults and older girls.
